Why do we wake up?

Alan Watts:
“Try to imagine what it will be like to go to sleep and never wake up... now try to imagine what it was like to wake up having never gone to sleep.”

Why do we wake up? A primitive answer would be, “because we slept enough. Our cells had the rest and recovery they needed to face another day in the life of this body. In some way, we can all agree with that, but the answer does not satisfy us because we are purpose-driven beings. We want to know why. Why am I even here? Who am I? What do I know? To answer that we have to separate between waking up and what brings us out of bed in the morning. What was the impulse that kicked you out of bed this morning, or why did you take an extra minute? To me, it feels like every time I open my eyes my soul is having an experience. An experience through my five senses and I'm here to witness this experience. Answering why we wake up almost immediately comes back to the question, “who am I?” Am I the one waking up? Is this me Silas? This body? In my eyes, I am the loving awareness witnessing my experience writing these paragraphs. As much as I’m the loving awareness witnessing my experience of sleeping. Maybe I should stop making a difference between sleeping and waking. I'm just observing these states. Consciously I can only remember what I experience in this life. But what if you and I are both parts of a collective being? The divine. Namaste -- the divine in me sees the divine in you. This part which is the same in all of us is noticing itself. It's nothing but looking into a mirror and seeing one’s own reflection having an experience on the way to reaching eternal life.
Why do we wake up? Well, have we ever gone to sleep?

You wake up every morning because you don’t want the magic to end.
