In the canvas of our lives, emotions are the vivid brush strokes that color our experiences. Each emotion brings with it a distinct flavor, a unique texture to color our consciousness. Anger, for instance, has its unmistakable taste. It consumes our thoughts and often leaves us feeling unsettled. Yet, when its storm settles, a subtle calmness arises—a peace that was there even when we were not peaceful. Anger is temporary and so is happiness. Just as quickly as it arrives, it departs, leaving us yearning for its return. None of these emotions linger forever. They ebb and flow, playing their roles in the grand theater of our lives and move on. But here's the essence: we are not these emotions. We are the canvas upon which they paint their temporary portraits.
It’s vital to recognize that peace isn't conditional. It's not solely reserved for moments of tranquility or when the world around us is in harmony. Peace isn't something external that we attain; rather, it is part of who we are. Even in moments of anger, happiness, or sorrow, peace exists within us, unwavering and constant.
This takes me back to looking through the ever-changing kaleidoscope of my mother. Emotions change similarly, maybe that is why I found it so mesmerizing to watch. Underneath the endless change lies an unwavering truth—we are already everything we need to be. When we realize that peace isn't something to seek outside ourselves, but rather something within us, life becomes a beautiful, intriguing game. We are trying to uncover who we already are.
