Where Inspiration Comes From

Inspiration is such a wonderful thing. It starts as a spark and can turn into a fire. A fire that start within one person, but can spread to other. So, how can we inspire? By talking about what truly matters to us. How can we be inspired? By shutting up and listening to what really matters to others. The ‘shutting up’ part is especially important. Yet, shutting up alone won’t change much. We also have to pre-empty our minds of any previous opinions. You will find that being inspired is way harder than trying to inspire others. Everyone is quick by offering opinions and giving advice. I don't actually mind getting advice, because people often give it with good intentions. It’s just that I believe advice from someone else isn't true wisdom. It can only inspire you to act. Personally, I believe that this is the reason that if someone wants to inspire, they first have to look out for inspiration themselves.
It starts by walking through the world and being open for inspiration. Being open is so important, as inspiration can be found in everything and could happen at any moment. You just have to dare to see it.
Inspiration can have many different faces. For some it's music, for others it is watching a movie or reading a book. Perhaps cuddling a dog or walking through nature, having a conversation, or smelling the rain after a hot summer day.
Did you notice something about the things I listed?
They are all fully experienced through our senses. Inspiration happens when you give yourself fully over to what is. Cooking or eating for example is a great activity to immerse yourself in. Just think about it. It is one of the few activities where you use all five senses. Touch, taste, sight, hearing, and smell. Without distraction, give yourself over to your senses for just a simple meal and maybe you will see it in a different light.
Being inspired can have many different faces, you'll have to find a face that you are willing to listen to. Try making a list of things that appeal to you. This could be a first step to feeling inspired and ultimately sharing that with the world.
