The Punishment of Practice
Writing it's like a muscle you train. It is just like doing bicep curls for example the more you do them the better you will get, and the heavier the weight will become that you are able to lift. The more you write the easier it will get to wrap your head around more complicated concepts. The same principle applies to the distance in running, a healthy diet, or learning a new language. Getting better at something is the power of practice. Or should we say the punishment of practice?
Why punishment of practice? Think about it that way: You go and do something, anything, and your punishment will be that you might eventually get good at the thing you are doing. Maybe we have to also swap the word practice for participation. The punishment for participating in an activity is you might get good at what you are participating in. Why that? Because we are not only getting good at the things, we want to get good at, but also at the things we are just participating in. Let’s say you practice bad posture or you participate in phone scrolling for extended periods of time. What will you end up with? Eventually, you will get good at bad posture and bad phone habits.
What are the things that you participating in?
Remember: “Not till you make the unconscious conscious it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” From here you can expand this principle over your entire life like a spider web. What are the practices you participate in unconsciously, and what are the practices you would like to participate in more consciously? Expand your spiderweb of awareness and be curious about what will get caught in it.
If you get overwhelmed by the weight of a dumbbell that you are trying to pick up, know that you can don't have to start at the finish line. Start with a lighter dumbbell and lift your way up.
