Certainty
What is yoga? In the vastness of yoga philosophy, there are countless definitions and interpretations of this practice. In the words of DKV Desikachar, "These definitions of yoga have one thing in common, the idea that something changes." This encapsulates the essence of yoga as a transformative journey. Whether we approach yoga as a physical practice, a spiritual path, or a mental discipline, change lies at its core and it will take you to a place you have not been before. A place where “that which was impossible becomes possible, that which was unattainable becomes attainable, that which was invisible can be seen."
The practice teaches us to embrace change not only on the mat but also in our lives. It invites us to take a voyage into the unknown, exploring the depths of our being, and to evolve beyond our limitations. As we flow through postures, pranayama, and meditation, we witness the ever-changing nature of our bodies, minds, and emotions. We learn to cultivate resilience, adaptability, and inner strength in the face of life's challenges.
This means the true test of our yoga practice lies not in our ability to throw our bodies into challenging poses but in how well we navigate change and the challenges that come with it. Can we let go of attachments to the way things are? Are we able to find stillness amidst chaos? Do we approach each moment with curiosity and wonder? Are we open to new experiences, postures, feelings, emotions, situations, people,…? These are some of the questions that guide us on our yoga journey. As we dive deeper into our practice, we realize that change is not something to be feared but to be embraced and lived. It is through change that we discover our true potential, our own wisdom, and our limitless capacity for transformation. Change is not just a possibility; it is a certainty. From the moment we step out of the womb onto the (yoga)mat of life.
